When you play a game, the company’s logo always appears in the intro and credits scene. Most gamers would believe that the logo would be the same for all copies around the world… or is it?
Most gamers would remember the logo of Sega; as a simple name to remember along with its notable white and blue colour. However, the latter seems to differ among different parts of the world! Turns out there’s a surprisingly minor detail that Japanese developer, Yuichiro Kitao, found when he compared two logos together. He posted on Twitter, comparing the Japan logo along with the overseas version and stated: “I do not know what happened, but the Sega logo is a little different between Japan and overseas. As you can see, it looks a little different.”
Kitao’s discovery instantly caught people’s attention, including Sega of America’s director of production, Sam Mullen post on Twitter: “I can confirm this is true. The Japan and International logos for SEGA are different shades of blue. If you have a JP and EN copy of any recent game, check the boot sequence and compare for yourself.”
Presently, colour difference between the two Sega’s logo is not known. In the past (21st century), Sega changed their marketing business from a Gaming logo, Sega, differs in colour versions between Japan and International. Sam Mullen confirmed this as true and stated that the Japan and International logos for SEGA are different shades of blue. He added that if gamers have a JP and EN copy of any recent game, then they may check the boot sequence and make their own comparison. Theory-wise, Mullen believed that it could be a printing error or the Japanese version is catering a kid-friendly colour; yet, there is no official explanation from Sega whilst he has been on the job for more than a decade.
External sources from Japanese forum, Kotaku, believed that originally an intern from Sega committed a colour error. Since then, the colour tone has been officially adopted as the logo’s colour, though no one noticed this. Based on this surprising discovery:
